At the @bespokeartsociety Holiday Artist Market, i At the @bespokeartsociety Holiday Artist Market, it was an absolute pleasure to have a fully developed vision come to life. It was a pleasure to talk to people about what my photography invoked in them, sell products and bask in the beauty of Malibu Wines and Beer Gardens. I absolutely loved working and collaborating with Hilary (@hiltoppots) to create something absolutely incredible for our vendors and clientele.
At the @bespokeartsociety Holiday Artist Market, I At the @bespokeartsociety Holiday Artist Market, I wanted to push myself to create more interesting ways to share my art. So, I designed a few tote bags, lined notebooks, calendars (which sold out) and blank books. It felt so good to hold these items and watch as people browsed, asked where a photo was taken and shopped.
At the first Bespoke Art Society Holiday Artist Ma At the first Bespoke Art Society Holiday Artist Market, it was a pleasure to have my handcrafted photo cards on display. Knowing that people browsed, purchased and will send these little cuties out to places near and far fills me with joy. My art lives beyond me. What I captured from behind my shutter now has a life of its own. As an artist, that is all I dream of.
Over the years, I've fallen in curiosity with pape Over the years, I've fallen in curiosity with paper. The feel of it. The weight. The physical nature of it. The sensation of how it feels to receive something in the mail. Or, a note in passing. Giving a meaningful message in written form. The pleasure of receiving paper, with words of love, thanks or gratitude. I used to buy notecards from Kate Spade and Crane to feel like a Proper Woman Who Sends Meaningful Messages Through The Mail. Now, I design and craft my own folded cards for sale. When people purchase my cards, they are buying memories of my travels. In this particular assortment, images range from a Christmas tree in Paris, France, a wave crashing on a rock in Malibu, California, palm trees swaying during sunset in Altadena, and a holiday decorated store front in Paris. From picking up my camera to holding the finished product, it feels incredible to know that these beauties will be sent in the mail, handed to strangers and have a life beyond the moment I clicked my shutter. My art lives and exists beyond me.
It's incredible to know that the first time I star It's incredible to know that the first time I started creating physical products from my art was in 2013. That was when Alice, a friend from elementary school, saw my photography on my Facebook page - and asked me to be a vendor at her company's event. I was terrified, didn't sleep for days and was shocked when someone actually wanted to buy cards. Why? Well, previously, a former boyfriend in high school told me that photography wasn't a true art form. His point of view was that since he was a talented drawing artist, photography was lame. Well, that is clearly was - and is not - the case. Years later, I reflect back on the first time I bravely said "yes, I took these photos", and I took the first step in validating my creativity. This images, is the first step in creating a new batch of my current correspondence cards. I feel that they are the best I've ever done and are - simply put - beautiful. Yes, photography is an art form. And an insecure hating ass person is always going to show their true colors, one way or another. I also share this to say: surround yourself with people who SEE YOU. Even when you don't know how to see yourself.
